•Warli Art is an Ancient and Living, Folk Art form from India.

•It started by Ancient Indians in the village of Warli in the state of Maharashtra.

•Warli Art was basically Wall Art as people painted scenes from their daily life on the walls of their houses. During ancient times they used different Natural materials to draw and paint on mud plastered walls

•The human figures are basically 2 triangles and a woman has a bun and bangles to make her look different from men. As Warli Art was inspired by Nature and their daily life, you will find Sun, Moon, clouds, mountains, trees, plants, rain, animals, birds, insects, huts, baskets, musical instruments, sticks, stones etc. all drawn in simple yet effective Line Art. Although in many places you will notice that proportions are not correct but never the less it looks aesthetic to the eyes.

•Now a days, Warli Art is made using different materials and styles and you can easily find them on paintings, murals, painted or printed on bags, clothes, cards, wallpaper, shoes, furniture, stationery etc. and the list goes on as it has become very popular and children love to draw it.

•Warli Art can be done directly with gel pen, sketch pen, fibre tip pen, ohp marker or even paint brush and for little children or for children till Grade 5, I let them draw with pencil and then re outline with a pen of their choice, there after erasing all the pencil marks. Colored pens can also be used. Doing Warli Art over painted backgrounds can also be done.

•For older children, this can also be a research project in Ancient Indian Art. By this children will also see various forms and styles of Warli Art.

•I have included lots of samples made by my students of Grade 5 and Warli Art on pieces of laminates with an OHP marker that are done by me.

•These pictures may be used for observation by kids and they will soon come up with their own creations. :)
